Precautions should be taken when using Graphite Electrode

 Graphite electrode should pay attention to the following points:

(1) When selecting electrode type and diameter, the capacity of electric furnace and transformer should be referred to.

(2) The graphite electrode should be handled gently during loading and unloading and transportation to protect the thread and prevent damage.

(3) The graphite electrode should be prevented from moisture during transportation and storage, otherwise it should be dried before use.

(4) Before connection, blow off the dust on the thread of the electrode connector hole with compressed air, and then tighten the connector and electrode. The tightening force distance should meet the requirements. In order to ensure that electrodes of different specifications can reach the required tightening force distance when connected, some electric steel mills specially make a tightening wrench, on which there is a sign showing the tightening torque to ensure correct operation. The holder should be clamped below or above the bottom of the electrode connector hole.

(5) The electric furnace electrode lifting device should be flexible, shall not shake during operation, to prevent the electrode break or joint loose.

(6) When putting into the furnace, the bulk material should be placed at the lower part to prevent the material from breaking off the electrode when melting.

(7) During the refining process, the electrode is not allowed to be immersed in the liquid steel for carburizing, so as to avoid thinning of the electrode, resulting in electrode fracture or joint loss.

(8) In order to prevent the electrode joint from loosening and tripping, it is recommended to use the joint pin.
